We celebrated the achievements of our Scouts at the Spring Court of Honor on April 12. Besides the usual flurry of rank advancements, merit badges and recognitions, Dhiren M. was installed as our new SPL. We also welcomed his new Patrol Leaders Council. Our new Scouts were formally welcomed into the troop, and given the official Troop 17 neckerchiefs. We also enjoyed a video of the older scout's adventure on Mt Cardigan. The South Common saw quite the scene, as kilt and pink, er, taupe clad Scouters gathered for a Wood Badge beading ceremony. Chandra Haugh and Mike Souza completed their Wood Badge "tickets", and were awarded the regalia of Wood Badge. Members of the troop stood in amazement (& some in confusion). Wood Badge is an advanced course, started by Lord Baden-Powell,himself. It involves two full weekends of training and also completion of a "ticket". You can think of the ticket as the equivalent of roughly healthy sized service projects. It is quite a commitment, and quite an accomplishment. Scouters who finish the ticket are awarded with a taupe neckerchief, a leather woggle and a pair of wooden beads on a simple leather thong. The ceremony ended in the traditional singing of "Back to Gilwell", which we are sure made an impression on the scouts. Some of the fun from Jack Moran's Eagle Court of Honor Our September Court of Honor rank in a new Scout Year, and a new PLC. Evan G (SPL), Patrick D and Ben M. (ASPLs) officially installed as our Troops new leadership, along with the eight new Patrol Leaders. We also had a cavalcade of merit badges and rank advancements, as Summer Camp achievements were celebrated. Congratulations to all! Troop 17 had a (Super) fantastic Scouting year in 2013! We started with an Eagle, and ended with Trees. In between, there was the Klondike Derby, the snowy Baseball Hall of Fame, Howe's Caverns, Mt. Cardigan, NYLT, Treasure Valley, a Scavenger Hunt in Boston, Camp Wanocksett & Lovell's Island, Summer Camp at Hidden Valley, Camp Yawgoog, OA Ordeals, a once-every-four-years MassJam, a great Project COPE trip and several parades and service projects. Below is a quick recap. Enjoy! What do you get from a group of motivated, high flyin' Scouts at their Fall Court of Honor? 120 Merit Badges, 12 rank advancements, countless other awards (including one Golden Rodent). |
